This might be my biggest custom wedding project yet, (well except for the several dozen custom wedding dresses I created back in the early years when I was taking on custom sewing as a side hustle to the bag-making). Erin asked me if I could incorporate the silk fabrics being used for her dress, and her bridesmaid dresses into a unique clutch for each of her bridesmaids as gifts. She brought over the delicate swatches of silk to see what I could do.
First, I had to fuse the silk to a durable backing called interfacing, so that the fabric could handle being sewn through.
Then each pleat was sewn to it's corresponding silk outer shell.
A peek at the backs of the clutches after they've been side-pleated.
Each clutch got a colorful pop of complimentary satin lining
